Men's College Ice Hockey Computer Ratings
I am trying to revive my college ice hockey computer ratings, so here we are.
To calculate a hypothetical margin of victory for any matchup, just use the "Points" column. The home advantage fluctuates based on games played, but is consistently about 0.2 to 0.25 goals for college ice hockey.
Teams will bounce around a lot early in the year, especially in November. Many thanks to National Statistical, my upstream source for scores and schedules.
28 December: My score source tends to bug out from time to time, so errors do crop up. Hopefully they get fixed automatically within a few days. Sorry about this. :-(

Ratings Description
- 9 November: The last time this page was running, I had a totally different set of codes I used. This new set isn't displaying ties on the conference standings page for some reason. I'll work on it.
- 6 November: Welcome. I'm trying to revive the ice hockey computer ratings, via this page. As I get things running again, I'll post updates on this tab. Been a long time... glad to be back.
This rating system uses a formula developed by the owners of talismanred.com. It is explained in more detail over on the college football page, but the bottom line is that it can be used both for ranking teams as well as predicting future scores.
About the AuthorI am a faculty member at Indiana University in Bloomington, with a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. For my day job, in addition to teaching lots of courses I have research interests in the broad areas of thunderstorms and numerical weather prediction (forecasting the weather using computers).
