The Work Page

The Bottom Line

My name is , and I recently finished my Ph.D. at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. I worked with Dr. Bill McCaul and Dr. Kevin Knupp on understanding the behavior of convective storms. By analyzing a large set of (200+) numerical simulations, we hope to better grasp why thunderstorms evolve the way they do.

In August, I will begin a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position at UCAR/COMET in Boulder, Colorado. More details to come soon.

Publications List

Present research

  • Morphology and dynamics of simulated deep, moist convection
  • Aspects of the climatology of convective forecast parameters in the US
  • In August ('10), I will join the Cooperative Program for Operational Meteorology, Education and Training (COMET) in Boulder, Colorado, as a postdoctoral research associate. My research emphasis will be mesoscale NWP.
  • Previous research

  • From 2002-2005, I derived employment from the Convection Morphology Parameter Space Study, or COMPASS.
  • From 2005-2010, I was supported by Dr. Kevin Knupp on a grant for tornado and hurricane research from the NOAA Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR).

  • 07/10: I have successfully defended my dissertation! Here is a PDF of the abstract.
  • 07/10: We intend to submit our next publication in a couple weeks, on some unique behaviors of simulated storms when environmental CAPE is low. Stay tuned.
  • 01/10: Check out my presentation at the 9th AMS Student Conference titled "Habits of Good Graduate Students." A PDF version of my talk is now available.
  • 12/09: A webpage for my AGU Fall Meeting poster has been created.
